Scholarships Information for Studying Abroad ... By Dr Anil Khare

Who is more likely to obtain a scholarship?

Most scholarships are aimed at minorities to boost diversity in college and university campuses. International students get a better chance to obtain a scholarship than domestic students, especially if they are going for a Ph.D. then they get funding. Additionally, domestic students who come from lower-class backgrounds stand a likelier chance to receive a scholarship. A lot of study-abroad studentships are available all over the world.

How much does it cost to study abroad?

The expenses to study abroad are quite high. Tuition fee, housing, transportation and on ground support must be figured out by the students. International students need to do a thorough country-wise and course-wise research before shortlisting universities. Most scholarships do not cover all the costs involved in sending a student overseas. To be eligible to receive one of these scholarships, students will need to have achieved a high academic grade point average throughout their academic year.

How do you find out about the different scholarships available?

The best way to find out about academic loans is to look online. There are plenty of companies and websites that list scholarships offered by different universities for diverse courses. Students can either search through these websites or read different university websites.

Who is eligible for a scholarship to study abroad?

The answer to this question varies from country to country. Usually, student loans are only available to people who are aged 21 and above and enrolled in college. The exact details can vary, but in general, this criterion is followed. There are also other specific awards, for example, cultural and sports scholarship awards, which may be open to certain candidates.

How does the process work if you want to start your studies abroad in the spring of your academic year?

Usually, you will have until the end of your last semester, which is typically the last day of your previous academic year. The school you study in may require you to submit your bid to win a competition for scholarships for studying abroad, for example you might be asked to write an essay to run for the competition. The deadlines for submitting these bids can change each year.

How do I find out if I am eligible for one of these scholarships?

There are many scholarships with academic requirements. This means that GPA and/or test scores are the main requirement to win the scholarship. While most academic scholarships require students to hold a high GPA, there are a few scholarships that award students for less-than-stellar academic performance.

When students apply to academic scholarships, they often must show proof of their achievement in the classroom. Sometimes, this may require a transcript or test score. Other times, students may need to include an essay in their scholarship application. The application pool for scholarships with academic requirements is smaller, partly because of those strict requirements and also because there is more work entailed in the actual application process.
